Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 24, 2026
WhyWait LLC ("WhyWait", "we", "us") operates a digital queue management service that lets people hold a place in line without physically waiting. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what choices you have.
1. Who This Applies To
- Customers who join a line at a participating business, either with an account or as a guest.
- Business owners who create and manage lines using WhyWait.
2. Information We Collect
Information you give us:
- Phone number. Required to send you text updates about your place in line. Guests provide a phone number without creating an account.
- Name. So the business knows who to call next.
- Email address and password. For account holders only. Passwords are stored as one-way encrypted hashes and cannot be read by us.
- Business details. For owners: business name, address, and operating information.
Information created by using the service:
- Queue activity. Which line you joined, when, your position, and how the visit ended (served, you left, the business removed you, or the entry expired after 24 hours).
- Approximate location. Only if you choose to share it, and only to show you nearby businesses. See Section 5.
- Device and log data. IP address, browser type, and timestamps, recorded by our servers for security and troubleshooting.
Information from others:
- Google Sign-In. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and a Google account identifier. We never receive your Google password.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To place you in line and tell you when it is your turn.
- To send text notifications about your position and status.
- To let the business you chose manage its own line.
- To verify your phone number and protect against fraudulent signups.
- To keep the service secure, diagnose problems, and understand overall usage patterns.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for advertising or share it with advertisers.
4. Text Messages
- Text messages from WhyWait are transactional only. They relate to a line you joined. We do not send marketing texts.
- Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for assistance.
- Full details are in Section 3 of our Terms & Conditions.
5. Location Data
- Location is optional. The service works without it.
- If you allow it, we use your approximate location only to show nearby businesses and is not stored as a history of your movements.
- You can revoke location access at any time in your browser or device settings.
6. Cookies
WhyWait uses a small number of functional cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics trackers, or third-party tracking pixels.
- A guest ticket cookie so a guest can return to their place in line without signing in.
- A terms acceptance cookie recording that you have agreed to our terms.
- Authentication tokens to keep you signed in.
Blocking these cookies will prevent parts of the service from working.
7. Who We Share Information With
We share only what is necessary to operate the service:
- The business whose line you joined. They see your name, your phone number, and your position. This is the point of the service.
- Amazon Web Services. Hosting and text message delivery. Our servers and database are located in the United States.
- Google. Sign-In (if you use it) and reCAPTCHA on signup to block automated abuse.
- Email delivery providers for account emails such as password resets.
- Legal authorities where required by law, subpoena, or to protect someone's safety.
If WhyWait is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will post notice here before that takes effect.
8. How Long We Keep It
- Queue records are retained as historical activity so businesses can understand their own usage. Entries left open are automatically closed after 24 hours.
- Account information is kept while your account is active.
- Phone verification codes expire shortly after they are issued.
- When you delete your account, we remove or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must keep records to meet a legal obligation.
9. Your Choices and Rights
- Stop texts: reply STOP to any message.
- Access, correct, or delete your information: use your account settings, or email us.
- Leave a line: reply LEAVE, or use the link in your confirmation.
- Location: revoke permission in your device settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. WhyWait does not sell or share personal information for advertising. To exercise any right, email support@officialwhywait.com. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.
10. Children
WhyWait is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
11. Security
- All traffic to WhyWait is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.
- Passwords are stored as one-way encrypted hashes.
- Our database is not reachable from the public internet.
- Access to production systems is limited.
No system is perfectly secure. We take reasonable measures but cannot guarantee absolute security.
